Hannie Blaise February 8, 2016 at 8:49 pm I can definitely agree with the investing point. This is great advice! Though I’m staying with Blogger for now, just with my own domain. Thanks for sharing!

One tactic that I really enjoy is getting businesses to write about topics other than their products, services or company news. Very basic, I know, but I find that many B2B businesses still tend to use their blogs primarily to talk about themselves.

Instead, take a few minutes to understand how to cite other people's content in your blog posts. It's not super complicated, but it's an essential thing to learn when you're first starting out.

Blogging Tips or Rules for Living? - Scribbles & Musings

Hi Brenda, I’m not sure whether you can schedule pins in advance of publishing them. It seems like you should be able to, as long as you know the URL for the post to be published, but I just don’t have experience with this yet. I’m more of a hands-on pinner, myself.

When I started my first blog, Green Exam Academy, back in 2008, I was helping my reader solve a problem: studying for the LEED exam was hard. My blog organized information and made it easier for my reader (the customer) to study.

Thank you, Erin! So encouraging. I’m 52 and I started a “blog” just over seven years ago maybe. I can’t remember really…I’m 52. I put “blog” in quotes because I never really quite thought of it as such. and When I look back now, I can see why. It is terrible. I’m almost finished reading CHASING SLOW and I don’t want it to end. You have inspired and challenges me. I had never heard of you or your work and I can’t remember (I’m 52) where I heard of your book or what possessed me to pay money for a “random” book by a “random” author…hardback, no less! But I’m so glad I did. I have since scoped out your Instagram and your blog and this post is just what I needed! I had completely shut down, overwhelmed by technology and “relevance” and stats and new words from a language I had never even heard. I was way too old and busy with life to even begin to try and learn all that and I just shut down. But now, now I’m just beginning to be inspired to write again! Thank you!!!

So you’re thinking about starting a blog, but you don’t have any idea where to start, right? Guess what—neither did we. We were clueless. When we created this blog a few years ago, we had no idea how to start a blog or how to be a blogger. Heck, we could hardly spell HTML, let alone build a blog.

In order for someone to sign up for your newsletter, they have to give you their email address, and in most cases,  a double opt-in—clicking a link to confirm they’re interested. If they don’t confirm, then they don’t receive your newsletter.

As a writer, a series becomes a guidepost, a concrete way to conceptualize and plan my article. During the research, writing and editing stages, I have a reliable process, something I know how to approach.

Hey Jeni, Thanks for this post, there’s never enough time and I always feel guilty when I don’t post as often as I would like lol. Best tip – request for guest bloggers & outsource empowee recently posted..8 tools that helped to grow my blog businessTwitter: empoweeblog

Yes it is a pity when blogs peter out and die. There are so many reasons why this can happen, of course. But I think that if it does occur the best policy is to leave the blog up there anyway. (I know this may not always be possible because of cost.) As with so many things in life, I think it’s always best to keep your options open. If you do this you may return to a dormant blog months, or even years, hence. You may well see a whole lot of new potential in it and have success on the second attempt.

Here at HubSpot, we typically use good ol' Google Calendar as our blog editorial calendar, which you can learn how to set up step-by-step here. Or, you can click here to download our free editorial calendar templates for Excel, Google Sheets, and Google Calendar, along with instructions on how to set them up.

If you want to be a profitable blogger just like them, you need to learn the art of email outreach. It is the most effective way to build strong connections with the authority bloggers and also to get better results with your blog's traffic, sales and links.

Larry Frank Hey Ankit, This article is incredibly great, its both beneficial to newbies and pros. Thanks for sharing and do have a wonderful day ahead.

May 2, 2014 Reply Meg Cook This post is so well done. This is my first time to the site, and I absolutely LOVE the way you put together the “Pssssst” opt-in box. The consistent color use is very nice for me as the reader. Really well done!

The type of content you publish (text, image, video, audio) doesn’t really matter, as long as your audience loves it. However, studies have shown that image-based content tends to get more shares across social media, so images and video can be important components of your content strategy.

After several years of following all the “rules,” I finally tossed them out the window in favor of making my own way. The rules served me well at first as I tried to learn this Internet and blogging thing, but eventually they stopped being helpful and started being a hindrance to my writing. (Because when you spend all your time trying to play by the rules, there is little time left for the art.) I still feel a bit uncomfortable in this new space I’m allowing, but your words encourage me to keep going my way, following my art and my dreams and my voice — not someone else’s. Thank you, thank you.

15. You’ll probably accidentally find a time that ideas turn into blog posts. Mine is usually between 10pm and 2am after my kiddo is asleep (when I should probably be sleeping). I think through my day as I’m winding down, and then I remember something that set me off that I need to write about, and I get up and write about it.

Since 2006, I’ve been a blogger and have helped thousands of people learn this craft of online publishing. Still, there are days when I feel very much like a newbie.

13. Stream-of-consciousness posts sometimes end up sprouting more posts, and that’s totally okay. Don’t think of them as random thoughts, think of them as new topic ideas.

It’s not. A blog takes time, effort and contentious, effective strategy management to succeed. There’s a lot more to it than just writing some nice posts and putting them up for all to see.

Jay’s advice is to share the knowledge you have, rather than keeping it tucked away for a rainy day. Chris Guillebeau follows this advice by offering two free, downloadable PDFs to his readers. Chris also does what Jay calls giving away “information snacks to sell knowledge meals.” On both of the free PDF download pages, Chris markets his book on the right-hand side.

Recently, my favorite blogging tactic has been to make an audio version of my blog posts to share on my podcast feed. It introduces a whole new set of content to my podcast audience and lets people consume my editorial content in a new, easy and mobile way.

Spend the time to create quality individual posts, then tie them all together with a larger article or white paper. You’ll not only build internal links for SEO value, but you’ll create a resource potential customers are willing to sign up for and will likely share with their network of followers.
